PetraSim software

TOUGH stands for Transport Of Unsaturated Groundwater and Heat, and it is a collection of software codes for creating multidimensional numerical models to simulate the transport of water, vapor, gas, heat, and more in porous and fractured environments.

This suite was developed at the LBNL laboratory and is now widely used by universities, government agencies, and private sectors for applications such as nuclear waste disposal, environmental remediation, geothermal energy production, oil and gas, carbon sequestration, and other processes involving thermal, hydrological, geochemical, and mechanical interactions.

PetraSim

PetraSim provides the TOUGH family of codes in the form of a software package with a graphical interface, allowing users to focus on the model by automatically processing complex input details and simulation results.

Users can create and analyze various 3D models and meshes in a dynamic environment using this program.

PetraSim

This software accepts all CAD data and geological simulations and quickly generates high-quality animations along with the results of the processing.

It is one of the best in its class for modeling multiphase flow with different temperatures in porous environments, widely used by many experts, researchers, and environmental engineers.

Key Features of PetraSim Software:

  • 3D simulation and fully interactive display of results
  • Creation or import of 3D models
  • Support for EOS options from the TOUGH suite
  • Support for various meshing options
  • Complete collection of the TOUGH family in a comprehensive, graphical environment
  • Unified display of results with options like history, vectors, and contour plots
  • Organized inputs with mathematical and practical relationships for easier understanding by the user
  • Creation of complete evolutionary 3D models and display of results
  • Unified visualization of results (time history, isosurface, vectors, and contour plots)
  • Import of existing 3D layers and use them to define model geometry
  • Support for multiple meshing options. One of the fundamental options is the rectangular mesh, where cells are assigned based on the area in which they are located.
  • Support for TOUGH EOS options. TOUGH code is developed for various equation of state (EOS).
  • Optimization and integration of EOS execution modules into PetraSim
  • Integrated visualization of results: Users can immediately view results, including time history, 3D isosurface, vector, and contour plots. Data can be exported to a spreadsheet or in a format suitable for graphical software like TECPLOT.
  • Useful input visualization: All inputs are organized so that the user knows what each input is and where it is used.
  • Modeling of coupled processes (thermal, hydrological, chemical, mechanical, biological).
