Terms and Conditions of System Rental:

    • Systems are not connected to emergency power by default. On average, there is one power fluctuation or outage per month, which increases in summer. In such cases, an additional 12 hours will be added to your time. Some software, such as ANSYS, automatically saves results every two hours, so emergency power is not required. However, if your runs are very long, you can connect your system to emergency power for a monthly fee of 1,500,000 IRR.

    • The announced capacity refers to the nominal disk capacity; the actual usable capacity of the hard drive will be slightly lower than the value declared by the manufacturer.

    • Internet usage up to 10 GB per week is free. Any additional usage will be charged at 5,000 IRR per GB at the end.

Reasons for Using Amirkabir Simulation’s High-Performance Computing:

The Amirkabir Supercomputer enables high-performance computations for all software. Almost all engineering students at the master’s and doctoral levels face the issue of not being able to perform heavy computations on their personal laptops or computers, or the process taking an unreasonably long time. This need becomes more urgent as the defense deadline approaches.

When performing an optimization for a physical phenomenon, we need to repeat a modeling process multiple times with slight changes and compare the results to find the best configuration. Sometimes, a single simulation on a powerful computer can take up to 10 days (on a weaker computer, it could take much longer). If multiple simulations need to be repeated, it takes considerable time. Many students’ first thought is to buy a powerful system, which is a good idea but comes at a high cost. Another option is to rent one or more powerful computational systems at a lower cost. The Simulation Computing Center at Amir Kabir offers students, faculty members, and organizations the opportunity to remotely connect to powerful systems and perform their computations.

Guidelines for Using the Systems:

    • You do not need to visit in person to use the powerful computational systems; you can connect to the systems remotely via the internet. All systems are connected to high-speed internet, and you can download and install any software you need without any limitations.

    • The systems are available in both Windows and Linux environments.

    • For transferring large files, you can bring a hard drive to the university for file transfer assistance.

    • Computational systems are available 24/7, including holidays, and they never shut down.

    • Systems are accessible from all parts of the country and even outside of Iran.

    • The processing speed of the systems is not affected by your connection speed.

    • If you disconnect your connection, the system will continue running without interruption.

Guidelines for Selecting the Minimum System Requirements:

    • RAM is a crucial characteristic for speed; the system’s RAM should never exceed 95% usage, or the speed will significantly decrease. A stronger CPU will increase processing speed, but even with a slower one, you can still perform computations.

    • If you are unsure of the minimum RAM required, you can check the RAM usage in the Windows Task Manager or the Linux monitor
